I had a chance to get back to the area where I had the California Gull yesterday. The area is along the lake between our Lake Erie Bluffs Park and Fairport Harbor and is on private property. The bird was in pretty much the same area as yesterday. There were a lot more ring-billed gulls in the area and more herring gulls as well. There were a lot of gulls to far west from where I was to look through them. From what I did look through, besides the California gull I was able to find an adult lesser black-backed gull and an adult great black-backed x herring gull hybrid. There seems to be some good gulls around. If the weather gets bad they may head in to some more sheltered areas. When I was assisting with aerial Waterbird counts on Lake Erie a few years ago this area always had concentrations of gulls. It is basically north-northwest of the Lake County landfill and a lot of birds were flying to and from the dump.
