I've gotten a couple of directions requests for the Westerville Screech-Owl. It may be the easiest owl to see in Central Ohio right now, so here's how to find it, with visual aids! Here's a couple of Google Maps links. The first is a zoom in of the bridge - http://goo.gl/maps/LWNYH See where thevertical posts join up to crossbars at the top of the bridge? Underneath those joints are spaces. The owl tends to be up in one of those spaces on the north side of the bridge, usually near the west end of the bridge, and it's usually facing east. Look for its tail hanging down. This link shows you where that bridge is in relation to the major roads: https://maps.google.com/?ll=40.113067,-82.940683&spn=0.018347,0.042272&t=h&z=15 Basically, take I-270 to the Cleveland Ave. exit, like you were going to Sharon Woods Metro Park. Take a right onto Schrock, cross over Alum Creek, and take the first left onto Park Meadow Road. Park in the small Alum Creek South Park parking lot and walk across the big field to the bike path and take it north until you hit the bridge. Careful on the path - it can be icy. Check the bushes on your way up for sparrows and the creek for ducks, too.
