Most days I take 15 minutes or so to browse through bird list-serves in other states, mostly close-by. I go to what was once called Jack Siler's Site, since acquired and gussied up with ads by the Am. Birding Ass'n, at http://birding.aba.org/ . I look for the names of well-informed writers, or of course for the occasional lurid title. When--heaven forbid!--the Ohio list grows dull or repetitive, it's an opportunity to learn about birds, or, occasionally, birders. Here's a sample from this morning: The Connecticut list has an old favorite http://www.lifebuzz.co/they-went-for-a-canoe-ride-to-the-island-what-they-saw-on-the-way-back-was-unimaginable/ From the NJ list come some grumpy but often on-target remarks on local birders: http://birding.aba.org/message.php?mesid=610139&MLID=NJ01&MLNM=New%20Jersey An interesting thread from Arkansas, where they have a very improbable northern waterthrush, and some thoughtful and knowledgeable discussion: http://birding.aba.org/message.php?mesid=610102&MLID=AR&MLNM=Arkansas Bill Whan Columbus ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
