This morning (1/5), I visited Lake Erie Bluffs in Lake County to search for the previously reported Northern Shrike. I did not find the shrike. However, while walking the field west of the Lane Road entrance, I found a GRAY CATBIRD. I first was alerted to its presence when I clearly heard the meow- like call it gives off, at least five times. I had a quick glance at it flying into a bush as well. I was not able to get a picture. I searched more for it, but could not get another look. This was again in the field west of the Lane Road entrance, in the first path going north. Although I did find a Northern Mockingbird later in the same field, the mocker was seen at the farthest back end of the field, away from the catbird. Other birds around the field included Red-tailed Hawk, Pileated Woodpecker, Carolina Wren, and Cedar Waxwing. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S16235090 I made a quick stop at the Lake County Landfill to search for Rough-legged Hawk. I found one flying over the field, then into the trees. I saw it on a pull-off off of the Blase Nemeth road. Thanks to Chia for tip. http://ebird.org/ebird/view/checklist?subID=S16235354 Cole DiFabio Lake County ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
