Things generally were quiet at the dam at Hoover Reservoir this afternoon. A quick stop for waterfowl yielded lots of Mallards and one pair of Northern Shovelers. A lone Pied-billed Grebe was floating near the dam toward the Eastern shore. Many hundreds of Ring-billed Gulls were hanging around the now-under-construction docks; a quick scan revealed two Herring Gulls but no other gull species. I did not have much time to spend hunting for other waterfowl further up the reservoir, but brief looks along the way did not turn up additional species other than the usual Canada Goose – and not all that many of them. The water level is very high. It will be interesting to see what the coming cold weather brings. -- Bill Heck ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
