I was hiking from the Stanford House at about 11 am this morning. I wasn't quite to the bridge over Stanford Run when I heard two crow making a lot of noise off to the north. They flushed a short-eared owl out of the trees. I got a good long look at the owl as it soared with its long, paddle-like wings. It looked like it was going to soar south over the trail. But, it turned north. I knew what I was seeing. One of my Flickr contacts drives through the open lands near Calgary, Alberta. He posts images of these owls. I recognized the owl right away. (These owls have been sighted in the past about 3 miles to the southwest at the old Coliseum field.) After I hiked back to my car at Brandywine Falls, I drove along Stanford Road hoping for another view of the owl. But, I didn't see it. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
