Hey folks,

Birded a couple of spots in Greene County (Dayton) today. There are a few
spots opening after the freeze up over the last few weeks that are
certainly worth checking in the next few days as most of the area gravel
pits/reservoirs are still iced up. Highlights:

Huffman Metropark- the parking lot here was under two + feet of water
yesterday and the floods have opened up 90% of the lake (nearby diver
magnet Eastwood Lake is still locked in ice). Today it held only 5
sleeping Scaup, a Common Merganser, and 2 Common Goldeneye.

Medway Lake- small private lake on Medway Drive N of 235 (and WPAFB) that
has been has been kept open by an aerator. Today it held 4 Common
Goldeneye, 3 Redhead, 2 Lesser Scaup, and 1 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER.

Huffman Prairie Flying Field- Two ponds in the W corner of the preserve
have stayed open during the latest cold weather and has held an impressive
amount of divers over this period. Today I had at least 250 Redhead, 20
Canvasback, 40 RN Duck, and 20 Scaup (the majority Greater). Numbers and
diversity seems to change daily (and sometimes throughout the day) and this
spot is certainly worth monitoring.

Good birding!
