I was at Lake Metropark's Lake Erie Bluffs Park this afternoon (2/13). I hiked the field area west of Lane Road. The snow was high but the weather was nice for a change. I found a small area I of open water in a ditch running through the field. There were several robins at it and when they flew a Wilson's snipe also came out of the area. Only other bird of note out in the field was a northern mockingbird. What was interesting is have 2 single common mergansers and a red-breasted merganser fly by at less than tree top height about 100 yards inland. My guess is they were looking for open water. At the Clark Road parking area there were numerous robins feeding on crabapples south of Clark Road. I also found a northern shrike in the same area. For directions check: lakemetroparks.com .
