I think that the FB Rare Birds page is just that - for rare birds, only. That keeps it from becoming too "busy". I am also a member of the Central Ohio Birds and Birding Ohio FB pages, but these are primarily for posting photos, not for rare bird sightings. With the fast-growing popularity of bird photography, sometimes a post on one of the sites gets "lost" pretty quickly. I still try to post anything that I think would interest the "twitchers" or listers on both this listserv and on the FB Ohio Rare Birds site. If it is not something particularly unusual, I may post a note on the Central Ohio Birds. And, I am a strong advocate of using eBird to record all sightings, not just rarities, despite occasional attempts to sabotage or discredit that source. When I travel, I nearly always check eBird when I'm looking for a particular species. More often than not, I do find what I'm seeking, for example red-cockaded woodpecker in Louisiana last fall. Each source of information has its strengths and weaknesses, and I find that by monitoring FB, this listserv, and eBird, I keep in touch with what's going on in Ohio's birding community. But then, I’m retired, so I have the time. Most photographers are willing to share location information through the comments or through Flickr Mail. Ohio Birds Group Ohio Nature Photographers Group I do like the Ohio Hotsports/BirdTrax webpage for Ohio. Really nice. I also use the eBird Range and Point Maps if I am looking for a specific bird. I am not a Facebook member. But, I can view the two pages Jen listed: Rare Bird Alert and Birding Ohio Are these two pages more active in the spring? There doesn't seem to be a lot of activity for the winter.
