Not to be left out of the Great Grebe Fallout of '14, Larry Gara and I found a Red-necked Grebe at the Melvin quarry pits yesterday evening. It was on the far north side of the pond. Also notable were 16 Snow Geese (including three blue morphs), about 250 Redheads, at least 200 Ring-necked Duck and the near absence of Canada Geese. Waterfowl numbers are rising at Cowan Lake, too, as the amount of open water ever so slowly increases. Here also, the number of Canada Geese was dramatically less than the previous day: 6 vs 585.
