I just saw this blog on the ABA Blog about damage done to West Pond of Jamaica Bay NWR by Hurricane Sandy. I have never been there so I can't speak for it from personal experience but I have read many articles and birding reports about West Pond. It is an essential stop-over site for shorebirds and breeding ground for many of New York's rarer species. Many amazing birds have shown up here over the years. It would be a disaster on top of a disaster if the West Pond is not restored. The coalition is asking for online signatures and currently only has half of the number they need. Hope I didn't break any posting rules. Check out the ABA Blog for more details. http://blog.aba.org/2014/03/birder-action-needed-to-restore-jamaica-bay-nwr-west-pond.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A+aba-blog+%28ABA+Blog%29 -- John Habig Carlisle, Ohio ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
