I did a little birding today, including a couple of stops by Haul Rd (see Bill Whan's previous email) where I had three RED-NECKED GREBES and three HORNED GREBES but no luck with the eared grebe Bill reported, and I completely forgot to check the GHOW nest. There are a lot of waterfowl in the small pond to the south of 104, so definitely check the south end of Haul Rd. if you bird the area! Three RUSTY BLACKBIRDS were mixed in among the large blackbird flocks that are probably roosting at the south end of Haul Rd in the Phragmites there -- worth a evening visit as they come in to roost if you'd like to gamble on rare icterids! Earlier in the day at the O'Shaughnessy reservoir dam, I had seven BONAPARTE'S GULLS and a surprise trio of adult LESSER BLACK-BACKED GULLS -- still decent numbers of gulls here for central Ohio, and increasing numbers of Turkey Vultures which likely roost in the traditional site near the SW corner of the reservoir.
