Stopped down at the beaver marsh (CVNP) this evening in search of the Red-necked Grebe. I'm wondering if what was seen was a molting Horned Grebe? There are a pair of them now (7PM). They were too far off for photos but I could see them very well with the spotting scope. There was definitely a red eye which I don't believe the Red-necked grebe has. The molting plumage made it difficult to ID, at least for me. At first I was wondering if it was an eared or horned. But I don't think Red-necked, at least this pair. Also present were Ring-necked ducks (both male & female), Hooded Mergansers (both male & female), Coot, and the other normal resident Mallards, Wood ducks, and Canadas.
