While your bird does indeed look bulky and large and pale...if the dark "thing" extending from rear of bird...that looks like primary feathers... if they are indeed primary feathers, this is either a distant very pale Herring Gull-type or a Nelson's Gull (Herring x Glaucous). What did you observe in the field?
