For most of this week there has been a cloud of gulls over the Scioto River/O'Shaughnessy Reservoir, from Kiwanas Park north to Clark-Shaw Rd.

The gulls seem to be attracted to the dead fish in the edges of the ice and in the debris along the shores, so that flocks of hundreds will swarm around, often right over the road.

For the first time in the 10 years I've been driving along SR 257, I saw a road-kill gull.

As far as I can tell, they are mostly Ring-bills and Herrings, but it is the season for surprises...

Central Ohio birders might have some luck taking a look at these gulls this weekend.
