Among the many "first" signs of spring that I've encountered over recent days, none brought me more delight than the song of my FOS (First Of Season) Eastern Phoebe along our road in western Athens County. Its song was loud enough to overcome the din of a symphony of singing Eastern Bluebirds and American Robins. I noticed that Northern Flickers were also very vocal yesterday - it sounded like a call-and-response all the way up and down the whole length of the road, as if to say, "Spring is here, pass it on!" Wood Ducks were heard a few days ago, and American Woodcocks have been displaying and peenting for at least a week in these parts. Even though the equinox doesn't officially come until tomorrow, I bid you all a good Spring, and good birding!
