Hello Birders, I observed a juvenile ICELAND GULL at the Rayland Marina (Rayland, OH) this evening. It was first seen on the Ohio River, in West Virginia and then crossed over into Ohio, resting with the flock of gulls in the marina. I was able to get two photos before it got dark: https://www.flickr.com/photos/backpackingbirdwatcher/12917402744/ https://www.flickr.com/photos/backpackingbirdwatcher/12917229395/ There were several thousand other gulls in the vicinity and 5 WHITE-WINGED SCOTER on the river. Pike Island Dam produced 3 RED-NECKED GREBE and 2 HORNED GREBE. Photo of RNGB can be found here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/backpackingbirdwatcher/12917352394/in/photostream/ At the marina, I had an interesting encounter with a Ring-necked Duck. The bird landed on the snow near me! It came as quite a surprise and led to a nice photo shoot! Photo of the duck at the link below. https://www.flickr.com/photos/backpackingbirdwatcher/12917709213/ Good Birding! Tucker J.
