I was birding Blacklick Woods about the same time as the McNulties, and can add some numbers and species to their totals. I spent about an hour & a half hiking the forest trails there, with only a brief stop at the Nature Center (which wasn't open yet). The morning totals included Red-headed Woodpecker - 1 adult along the Maple Loop, north of the area where they wintered Sapsucker - 1 drumming along the Maple Loop Other woodpeckers - LOTS of Downies & Red-bellies (16-20 of each) Brown Creeper - 1 was calling along the Beech Loop, a rather late date for them here. Winter Wren - 2 were singing at different locations in the forest House Wren - 1 was singing near the Beech-Maple Lodge Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers - singles were everywhere, with 14 total Ruby-cr.Kinglets - 6, mostly along the Maple Loop Hermit Thrushes - 9, with most of them working around the edges of the vernal pool along the Buttonbush & Maple Loops Brown Thrasher - 2 singing at different areas near the entrance Yellow-throated Warblers - 2, one near the Nature Center and the other near the Ash Grove Picnic area Yellow-rumped Warblers - 8 scattered along the forest trails, with many singing Ovenbird - 1 singing along the Maple Loop N.Waterthrush - 1 along the vernal pool edge along the Maple Loop Hooded Warbler - 1 moving between the vernal pool and Ashton Pond E,Towhees - high numbers, with 12 scattered around the wood edges Field Sparrows - 4 working the fields south of the Nature Center White-throated Sparrows - small flocks in many places, totaling over 40 Junco - 4 still around, with pairs in two different locations Blackbirds - Rusties not re-found, but lots of Redwings & grackles around. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
