I stopped by this south Columbus park and walked around both the Turtle Pond area and the Confluence Trail. Lots of temperate migrants around, with especially good numbers of gnatcatchers & ruby-cr.kinglets. Notables included: Sapsucker - 1 north of Confluence parking lot Great Crested Flycatcher - 1 calling north of the Confluence parking area White-eyed Vireos - 2 calling at 2 different locations House Wrens - at least 3 different individuals were singing in different locations Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers - everywhere, with 30+ in 2 hours Ruby-cr.Kinglets - also quite common, with 10+ Wood Thrush - 1 was singing in desne shrubs near the NE corner of the first borrow pits along the multi-use path Hermit Thrushes - at least 2 were along the Confluence Trail Brown Thrashers - 2 were singing at different locations around the Turtle Pond area Parula Warblers - 5 singing in different locations, 3 in the floodplain forest west of Turtle Pond Yellow-throated Warblers - 5 singing in different areas of the park Yellow-rumped Warblers - 10+ in 2 small flocks Pine Warbler - at least 1 singing along the multi-use trail E.Towhees - good #s, with 12+ in 2 hours Chipping Sparrows - abundant, with singing birds in many open areas of the park Juncos - 2 still hanging around the Turtle Pond area Afterwards I drove down to check isolated wooded areas around Rickenbacker Airport, hoping for some fallout but finding little different from 3-Creeks. The open fields and puddles here had not attracted any shorebirds, but there were 2-3 singing E.Meadowlarks along the SW stretch of Rickenbacker Blvd. ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
