I spent the rainy part of the morning walking around this Westerville MetroPark, as well as nearby Heritage Park, and had lots of temperate migrants and a few neotropicals. The most activity was around Shrock Lake in Sharon Woods, but most spots held something interesting. Notables in 3 hours included: Accipiters - both Sharp-shinned & Cooper's were hunting near Shrock lake Wild Turkeys - a flock of 15+ was in the fields north of Shrock Pond in Sharon Woods Least Flycatcher - 1 was calling at south edge of Sharon Woods Swallows - mixed flock, mostly Tree with a few Rough-winged & Banr, were foraging over Shrock Lake Warbling Vireos - at least 2 were singing along the shore of Shrock Lake Gnatcatchers - still unusually numerous, with 30+ over the course of the morning Kinglets - only Ruby-crowns, but 8+ were at Sharon Woods Wood Thrush - 1 was singing in dense shrubs at the entrance to Heritage Park Brown Thrasher - 2 were singing along the wood edges at Sharon Woods Gray Catbird - 1 was along Alum Creek at Heritage Park Worm-eating Warbler - 1 was foraging in a cluster of hanging dead leaves along the Thomas Trail in Sharon Woods Yellow Warbler - 1 was singing along shoreline of Shrock Lake Black-thr.Green Warblers - 1-2 were singing at most stops Yellow-rumped Warblers - singing flocks at several locations Yellow-throated Warbler - 1 singing in pines along south edge of Sharon Woods Palm Warblers - 3 at Heritage and another 4 at Sharon Woods Black&White Warbler - 1 male was singing along the Spring Creek Trail in Sharon Woods N.Waterthrush - 1 was singing along north shore of Shrock Lake Rose-br.Grosbeak - 1 was calling along Spring Creek Trail in Sharon Woods Swamp Sparrows - singles were at Heritage Park & Shrock Lake fields White-throated Sparrows - most common migrant, with perhaps 50 on the morning N.Cardinal - beautiful partial albino with white cheek patches was in Heritage Park ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
