East Harbor SP is under an hour drive east of Magee Marsh. Water has been drawn down in Middle Harbor and the shorebirds are appearing. http://www.eastharborstatepark.org/images/park_map_large.jpg At 5:45 this evening, the shore of Middle Harbor viewed from the main road leading to the beach, held 58 Dunlin, 5 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, 1 Dowitcher sp. Driving north past the entrance to the park until the road ends allows you to walk out the dike on the West Harbor channel and look southeast into Middle Harbor. These birds were further out, but I found 50 Dunlin, 17 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 peep, 4 killdeer, 31 Great Blue Herons, 10 N. Shovelers, 8 Green-winged Teal, 2 Caspian Terns and at least 35 smaller terns. If you need a break from Warbler Neck at Magee, this may be a nice stop for you.
