Julie Karlson and I looked around Big Island for a while today. We started along Larue - Prospect Road looking for the Purple Gallinule with no luck. We did hear a Prothonotary Warbler singing, several Marsh Wrens, and saw several coots and Common Gallinules. Just as we about to leave, a dark ibis flew over. We drove east to follow it and stopped at the next parking area. There we saw it circling but soon it flew to the northeast and we never saw it again. We drove to Route 95 and stopped at the observation platform but didn't see anything there. Then we drove west to the next parking area. We walked west on the dike and I heard a Bell's Vireo singing along the railroad tracks. We walked toward it and got a brief look at it. It was along the railroad tracks near the culvert west of where we were parked.
