Greetings! Cross-posting from the OHIO RARE BIRD ALERT Facebook group,... Rebecca Hinkle found a Tricolored Heron at Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge. It can be seen from the hiking trails in the northeast corner of impoundment 8A in Ottawa County. From the old parking lot take the trail north toward the estuary, turn and head west where the observation platform is. 8A is west of that. There are maps at the kiosk near parking lot. Also, just a reminder... Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge runs FREE Blue Goose Bus Tours in May. These exciting trips yield some of the best birds during the first two weeks of May. Last year many lucky observers were able to see and photograph a gorgeous male ruff in breeding plumage at Ottawa's 'closed to the public' Blausey Unit. Ottawa will also be running FREE tram shuttles through the refuge during May 6th thru May 13th at 12:30 p.m. and 2:00 p.m. (Right by the Tricolored Heron spot!) See their website for details or stop in the visitors center. The schedule is listed on the rotating header on the main page. Good Birding!!!
