What’s the chances of seeing a leucistic Rose-breasted today within a quarter mile of where you saw one 10 months ago? I posted a picture in July, 2013 from my yard (https://www.flickr.com/photos/85567104@N05/) and today we saw a similar/same bird ¼ mile away in the woods (see pictures next to each other). Today’s bird was not easy to photograph but it clearly is leucistic. This species migrates to Central and South America for the winter. If it’s the same bird, it certainly has been lucky to not get picked-off by a sharp eyed raptor! Today I watched 4 tiny Killdeer scurry back to their parent and hide under its wings (same link, a few pictures down). The adult guarded the young for almost 10 minutes before they started spreading out again to feed. After about 5 minutes they all scurried back and hid under mom’s/dad’s wings again. You see something new and/or interesting nearly every day out here!
