The bird activity at my house and surrounding wooded area has been a study today in local breeding birds. All birds listed are common summer residents, are a nice barometer of regular birds doing regular things right on schedule, regardless or the frigid winter. The following birds were seen today with fledglings, either by the bird feeders or in the wooded ravine: Cardinal Blue Jay Pileated Woodpecker (with 3 young - all practicing flying, with varying degrees of success, up and down a large maple tree) Red bellied woodpecker Robin Ruby throated Hummingbird Junco (carrying food - didn’t see the young) 2 pairs of adults seen regularly, haven’t located nest this year. Grackles Chipping Sparrow House Finch Common Crow Hairy Woodpecker (definitely needs more flying lessons) Downy Woodpecker Eastern Towhee - these have been abundant this year, with at least 2 pairs seen daily White breasted nuthatch Mourning Dove Other residents with adults only seen or heard: Wood thrush Veery RW Blackbird Chimney Swift Barred Owl Tufted Titmouse House Wren Chickadee Barb Partington Munson Township Geauga County ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
