I birded Headlands Beach this morning, August 5. A surprise was a juvenile Black-crowned Night-Heron, first found on the harbor beach, off of the Fisherman's Trail. He flew over to the break wall to preen in a tree hanging over the water. That is where I last saw him until I left. Also seen was a flyby American Black Duck (flying west), a flyby flock of 4 White-rumped Sandpipers (flying west), and many Bonaparte's Gulls (breeding plumage).
