We arrived at "The Sandspit" at 7:25AM. The temperature was 64 degrees, no rain, with windy conditions. The level of Lake Erie was higher than normal, with waves cascading over the breakwall. The Bald Eagle count was 26, 5 adults and 21 juveniles, with 12 of those on the sandspit. The highlight of our visit was 11 Black Terns passing directly over us at 10:25AM heading inland to the southwest. Shorebirds present today were: 2 Baird's Sandpipers, 8 Semipalmated Plovers, 4 Sanderlings, 4 Lesser Yellowlegs, 1 Short-billed Dowitcher, 1 Greater Yellowlegs, 3 Semipalamated Sandpipers, 12 Least Sandpipers, 1 Pectoral Sandpiper, and 2 Spotted Sandpipers. Other birds of interest were: 66+ Bonaparte's Gulls, 1 Northern Shoveler, and 5 Common Mergansers. After 11:30AM the tranquility at the sandspit began to end. With the strong winds, kiteboarders and sailboarders were setting up everywhwere.
