I thought this amusing encounter I recently had, might be of interest to others. On my way home from my visit to "The Conneaut Sandspit", on Thursday August 21st, at about 2:30PM, I stopped by the Sheetz gas station at the intersection of SR11 and US20 in Ashtabula. I went to throw an old coffee cup in the trash can by the entrance door, and out of the side opening of the trash can, flies an immature Ruby-throated Hummingbird. It flew directly up overhead onto a cross brace of the overhanging red plastic canopy. It was still sitting there when I left. Apparently there was something in the trash can it was interested in. Pretty amazing! This was a first for me! Attached is a photo of my little friend.
