Troy Shively just called; a juvenile Sabine's gull is flying around well offshore of Oldfield Beach just now. It seems clear that unusual numbers are showing up in the US right now as they move south. Don't count on them showing up roosting on the beaches, but rather look well out over open water, where they are perfectly happy afloat. At that distance, several of the smaller gulls show the wing pattern in flight, but look for a bird whose dark saddle extends across the back. And if you see one, read up on this bird's life history!
