I heard a cacophony of bird yells this afternoon and went out to investigate. An immature hawk, Coopers, I believe, was perched on the edge of the woods, being mobbed by assorted angry birds. It flew off but I took the opportunity to sit on a log and just watch birds for awhile. The angry birds dispersed (blue jays, flickers, red-bellied woodpecker, downy woodpecker, tufted titmice, chickadees, robins) but one bird stayed nearby - a brown creeper!!! I have only seen one in the yard once before. It did it’s creeper thing for awhile before moving to a farther tree.
Back at the house a Carolina Wren was calling and I located it going in and out of the woodshed. Glad to see it nearby.
A barred owl called from the woods.
Notably absent: no hummingbirds since September 23rd.
