Jerry Talkington did a lakewatch this a.m. off of Mentor and had a single Harlequin Duck and Red-throated Loon pass by heading east. Such days this time of the year, with *strong NW winds and fronts*, offer birders exceptional opportunities to watch for passing waterbirds-- waterfowl, loons, grebes, gulls and jaegers and more. Patience and perseverance is required, as is a scope. Conditions are typically rough and often birds are rather distant and passing by quickly. But the opportunities for rarities are incredible.
