A busy schedule these past couple of weeks has limited my birding to looking out my back window. This evening I saw 5 Fox Sparrows at once. One or 2 have been present all week and really aren't unusual in late November or early December in central Ohio, but 5 is probably my highest count at once here. My guess is all the Fox Sparrows showing up at feeders recently throughout the state is more a reflection on the unusually cold weather for the date than an unusual influx in numbers. It's a lot easier for them to pick up seeds by feeders than to scratch on a frozen ground for fallen seeds.
