I made an urban CBC-scouting morning, working Scioto Audubon Park, then making brief stops at several isolated parks around downtown - Confluence Park, Schiller Park, Columbus Commons & the Statehouse, Nationwide Plaza, and the DeafSchoolPark. Not surprisingly given the season, it was very hit-or-miss, with lots of activity in a few places. Bes birds were Black-cr.NightHerons - just when I was starting to worry about them, 3 appeared in a roost north of the Scioto boat ramp Cooper's Hawks - one was at Scioto, while another was stalking Robins at Nationwide Plaza Wood Duck - 1 was with the Mallard horde at the pond in Schiller Park Sapsucker - 1 was in the pines next to the Scioto Boat ramp Brown Creepers - singles were at Scioto and at Confluence Gray Catbird - 1 was lurking in the plantings at Columbus Commons. Lots of pyracantha berries here, so hopefully he'll stick around through the CBC Tree Sparrows - a small flock was in the weedfields north of the Grange Center at Scioto Audubon Swamp Sparrow - at least 1 was with all the Song Sparrows in the weedfields north of the Grange Center ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
