I stopped at several access points around this reservoir north of Columbus this morning. Hunting kept waterfowl numbers minimal, but there was a huge flock of gulls on the beach early. Unfortunately, dog-walkers & runners scattered them before I could look carefully for rarities. I also stopped at the East end of the dam, SummerRidge, and Cheshire accesses, but didn't find too much. Notables included: Waterfowl - skittish flocks near the dam included 12 Goldeneye, 42 Coots, and 1 Pied-billed grebe Gulls - 700+ were on the beach early, mostly Ring-billed, but with a few large gulls mixed in (all Herring that I saw) Woodpeckers - Flickers were widespread, with 2-3 at most stops. A Pileated was north of the Visitor's Center Fruit-eaters - Robins were very scarce, but I did find small flocks of Bluebirds at the Visitor Center fields and Cheshire Golden-cr.Kinglets - singles were at Cheshire & SummerRidge Yellow-rumped Warblers - good #s, topped by flocks of 8 (Visitor's Center trails) and 12 (SummerRidge) Tree Sparrows - not common, with only 2 in the scrub east of the Visitor's Center ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
