Two days ago I went to the Cuyahoga Valley in hopes of finding an American kestrel. (But, I was open to anything.) I started out along Canal Road at Granger and went south hoping for a peregrine falcon at the I-450 bridge. Instead, I saw a male kestrel perched on a line over the canal just past the highway bridge. I was able to stop in a parking lot across the road to view it.

I drove south along Canal Road and saw three red-tailed hawks perched near fields hunting along the way. I drove all the way to Alexander Road and on to the Frazee House. (I have seen kestrels in the fields near Alexander Road and the Frazee House/Sagamore Road in the past.) I saw two adult bald eagles perched up the hill in a big tree just north of the Frazee House. I got out of my car to view them with my binoculars and a big young Cooper’s hawk flew out from the woods near the Frazee House and perched across the canal. I was able to get a good look at it and the eagles.
