Around 2 o'clock this afternoon, on my way back home from errands in Zanesville, I saw a "buzzard" soaring with the flock of gulls above the stretch of the Licking River known as Dillon Falls, where it tumbles over the Lower Mercer Limestone, downstream from the dam and reservoir. Something wasn't right about it... no dihedral in the wing posture. So I pulled over at the bait shop, got my binoculars out (usually in the car) and, sure enough, white head and tail, a beautiful adult bald eagle. Zanesville, or the Dillon Reservoir, area usually harbors a pair or more every winter, and I hear there is a nest at Dillon, although I have never actually seen it. (Anyone know where it is?) Anyway, this is my first bald eagle of 2015. Nice to see it locally.
