Subject: [Ohio-birds] where are the sparrows ?

Have other Ohio feeder watchers observed a significant lack or absence
of song, tree, white-throated and white-crowned sparrows at their feeders
this winter? Sure, a person can go to Killdeer Plains, Big Island, etc. and
see decent numbers, I'm guessing, of these relatively common feeder
species. Did the subzero temperatures of late November push sparrows south
of where they would normally winter in Ohio? Towhees are basically unknown
in Richland County this winter. A few can normally be found at the
southeast areas of the county.
When is the DOW going to introduce a raptor that preys on starlings &
house sparrows?
     Stay safe, stay warm,
     John P. Herman
