We had a wonderful evening watching the parade of birds as evening approached along Wilderness Road near Funk Bottoms in Wayne County. We observed several groups of Tundra Swans flying in to the area to roost. They "talk" to each other as they fly making quite a racket. Canada Geese and Mallards were also moving around the area in good numbers. Not much open water yet, but the ducks should find some good habitat once the water opens, especially near the Funk Bottoms observation tower. We waited until sunset on Wilderness Road and saw several Rough-legged Hawks, two Northern Harriers, and a Red-tailed Hawk. Just after the sun set at least 4 Short-eared Owls were flying in the area. One landed on the top of a utility pole near our car. Quite a treat to watch.
