I and 10 others endured the chill to take advantage of a brilliant day at Cowan Lake. We all somehow linked to the Birdwatching 101 class of the Wilmington Institute of Lifelong Learning, seven instructors and four students. The bird of the day was a White-winged Scoter spotted by Jim Pettrie behind Cabin 21 about halfway out to Austen Island. The bird was a fully fledged adult male. Both the white wing flash and the white squiggle behind the eye were clearly seen. We had a good collection of waterfowl and an adult Bald Eagle seen in flight and perched. Good day.
