I spent parts of yesterday & today checking around the reservoir in this State Park north of Columbus, looking for waterfowl & early migrants. Little on the early migrants front other than blackbirds, grackles, & cowbirds, but migrant waterfowl are still putting on a good show. Most of the action has moved away from the south end, despite open areas at the spillway and along the beach. Many of the shallow coves all along the shoreline are now open, and they seem to be attracting small flocks. The Cheshire hole is quite large, and still has a good diversity of ducks, but nowhere near the numbers of last week. Some of the edge pools south of there can be accessed from Old Africa Rd, a closed road bed about 100 yds south of Cheshire Rd. Stuff there and at Cheshire included: Wood Ducks - 2 at Old Africa Rd Green-winged Teal - 3-4 at Old Africa Rd Gadwall - 5 at Cheshire Lesser Scaup - 50 at Cheshire, 20 at Old Africa Rd Greater Scaup - 3 at Cheshire Canvasback - 2 at Cheshire, 20 at Old Africa Rd Redhead - 60 at Cheshire, 20 at Old Africa Ring-necked Duck - 10 at each spot Bufflehead - 1 female at Cheshire ComGoldeneye - 15 at Old Africa Rd Red-br.Mergansers - 16 at Cheshire Ruddy Ducks - 3 at Cheshire Horned Grebes - 4 at Cheshire Cormorants - 18 at Cheshire Coots - 12 at Cheshire, 2 at Old Africa Rd ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
