Spring is coming although it sure doesn't look like it yet. Lake Erie is still ice covered around the islands. On Saturday, I saw a group of 30 American Crows flying over Middle Bass toward North Bass Island. I saw horned larks in two locations on my trip. Snow buntings were on the ground near Perry's Victory.

While ice-fishing this morning, I saw two pairs of Tundra Swans fly overhead and then heard single snow buntings flying overhead periodically.-too hard to see in the bright sun reflecting off ice. There have been hundreds of gulls out on the ice foraging-mostly Herring Gulls with quite a few Greater Black-backed Gulls-I counted 20 in one location.

Susan Harrington has had red-winged blackbirds at her South Bass Island feeder for over a week now-showing up on Thursday, February 26.
