Keep those reports of Rusty Blackbirds in Ohio coming in! Judith Scarl, national coordinator of the Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz reports: As of March17, we've had 1151 checklists with Rusty observations submitted to eBird, and we've had 554 checklists submitted under the "Rusty Blackbird Spring Migration Blitz" protocol- some of these reporting areas where Rusties were *not* found. So far, Virginia is leading the pack with 80 checklists reported under the Rusty protocol, with Georgia close behind at 71 checklists. More than 30 checklists were submitted to the Blitz protocol in OH, MD, NY, and AL. Georgia and Virginia are also leading in number of checklists reporting Rusty Blackbirds (not necessarily using the Blitz protocol) submitted to eBird- 111 and 77 respectively. At least 50 reports of Rusty Blackbirds have come from NJ, TX, MD, TN, and OH as well. Rusties are just beginning to flood the Midwest, with 29 reports in MI, 42 reports in IN, and 32 reports from IL. Thanks to all who are reporting your sightings of Rusty Blackbirds in Ohio.
