So, after yesterday's argument about funny and to some not so funny April fools jokes, and then the making fun of young or beginning birders, made me think about how I started birding. Grandma moved to a new house. Then I realized all the different species of birds, and got hooked. I read many articles, books, until I felt like I knew everything about the bird. But let's all admit it, no one in this universe will ever know EVERY thing about all birds. But we all have our specialties or favorites in birding. Like mine would be Bird of Prey. But then we all have weaknesses and aren't so familiar with that bird group. Like I'm bad at identifying Gulls, Warblers, and Vireos. What are your specialties and weaknesses? I used to be bad with waterfowl, now with help of many, their probably my 2nd favorite bird group. People like Troy Shively and James Muller have been super huge helps in my birding experiences. Now I think not only beginners, but also more advanced birders should start sharing their weaknesses. Why? Well there's no better place to get advice about birds you know nothing about than Listserv. Simply state your weak bird group, what you don't know about them, and the awesome people on here should answer questions like what they did to me. Thanks. :-D ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
