Temperate migrants were still the order of the day at these 3 Columbus-area parks that I visited this morning. We didn't have the warbler haul of the McNulties yesterday, but still had lots of good migrants. Among the stars were Black Vultures - a flock of 4 soared north over Innis Park Red-shouldered Hawk - the calling bird was still calling at Blacklick Woods; perhaps still agitated about the owls! Sharp-shinned Hawk - had 1 buzz the Maple Trail at Blacklick Woods Barred Owl - at least 1 along the Maple Loop, and 2 more reported, so it's a good time to see them Sapsuckers - 2 at BlacklickWoods and singles at the other parks Pileated Woodpeckers - singles calling at all 3 parks BrownCreeper - 1 at Blacklick Woods Winter Wrens - 2 at Innis, and singles at Blacklick Woods and Woodside Green Blue-grayGnatcatchers - good #s, with 4-5 at each park Kinglets - still small #s of both species at all 3 parks Hermit Thrushes - good numbers, with 3 at Innis and 2 at each of the other parks BrownThrasher - singles at Innis and Blacklick Woods Yellow-throated Warblers - 2 at Innis, singles at Blacklick Woods, Woodside Green Yellow-rumped Warblers - small groups at each park Louisiana Waterthrush - looked for them at all 3 parks, but only found one at Woodside Green E.Towhees - common, with 3-4 at each park Chipping Sparrows - singing birds at each park Field Sparrows - singing birds at Blacklick Woods & Woodside Green Swamp Sparrow - 1 in the marsh at Academy Park (north of Woodside Green) Fox Sparrow - 1 still singing at Innis Park White-throated Sparrows - small flocks in many places at all 3 parks Juncos - 4-6 at each park, usually in small flocks Blackbirds - Redwings, grackles & cowbirds now abundant & widespread ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
