Three of us studied the loons with scopes, and the consensus was that both are Common Loons. The closer one was definitely in basic plumage. The other may have been in molt, as it had a slightly different appearance. However, bill shape definitely pointed to COLO. His nephew David Miller reports 2 loons at the east dam end of Apple Valley Lake in Knox County. Per Junior--he does not think they are Common--his description suggests Pacific." One bird is reported as breeding plumage. This is south of Loudonville, west of the intersection of State Routes 62 & 36. For now this stands as an unconfirmed but very intriguing report.
