I led a walk today for Western Cuyahoga Audubon Society at the Bath Nature Preserve, northwest of Akron in Bath Township,Summit County. Before we got rained out, we had some decent birds. True highlight was a Virginia Rail with 2 chicks. A few years ago, the preserve did some work on the North Fork of Yellow Creek that runs through it. They worked at making the creek more natural....added meanders, added a flood plain area. This has made a nice wetlands area in and around the area they call the Garden Bowl. This is where the rails were. Last year , a Sandhill Crane was seen in this area. A spot worth watching. Highlights from today: Virginia Rail Bobolinks Eastern Meadowlarks Eastern Bluebirds Great Crested Flycatcher Willow Flycatcher Cedar Waxwings Green Heron Gray Catbirds Brown Thrasher Tree Swallows Vesper Sparrows Field Sparrows Sandy Brown Akron Oh Sent from Yahoo Mail on Android ______________________________________________________________________ Ohio-birds mailing list, a service of the Ohio Ornithological Society.
