My husband and I have found several similar nests that we have yet to find the builders of. 3 of them are in larch trees, 1 is in bald cypress. Each is made up of small twigs of these trees with the needles still attached. They were built in the last week and a half - when we saw the first one and it still had green needles that were wilted on the twigs. The one nest measures about 8-10" x 6", with an opening on the side to the cup-like interior that is about 3" x 5". These are placed up in the trees next to the trunk. I do have a photo I can send those interested in helping with this identification. Thank you! Elayna M.
