Hi,

The new emergent tower and canopy walk at the Holden Arboretum in Kirtland,
will open to the public on Sunday. These unique structures provide what is
literally a bird's perspective of the forest.

The tower is rises 120 feet about the forest floor. Birds fly by at eye
level and you can look down into the treetops. The view is spectacular and
360 degrees. Climbing the tower gives a unique perspective on the canopy
ecosystem.

The canopy walkway puts you at a level just under the treetops, where many
birds make their living. You can view these birds at eye level and avoid
warbler neck. Fall warblers can be very good in Kirtland, and my own
experience is that birds coming across the lake will stop here and forage
in our forests after making that flight.

Access to the tower and walkway is free for Holden Arboretum members. It
costs $4 for both, after paying admission for non members. The Holden
Arboretum is a not for profit outdoor museum which does not get any support
from taxes. It encompasses 3600 acres of with about 2800 are forest
preserve. Your membership or admission helps Holden to conserve these vast
natural area which are very important bird habitat.
