I first tried the first pulloff on Valley Rd. north of the Boat House. Found only Killdeer and a Spotted Sandpiper by walking the shore south to the inlet. Then I tried the second pulloff and found the Red-necked Phalarope feeding at the waters edge on the east side of the spit where gulls gather. I walked partway out along the shore but did not flush the shorebirds. Scope was necessary. I could see the dark on top of head, the dark patch on the face, the thin bill and the dark back with white streaks. First found the bird by feeding behavior, size and shape. Also present, Lesser Yellowlegs, Black-bellied Plover, Spotted Sandpiper.
