Sometimes my mind reverts to bird names that I learned many years ago. The snipe at Big Island was a Wilson's Snipe not a Common Snipe. I actually know the difference as many of my birding friends know and have seen both Common and Wilson's Snipe as recently as 2013 during my Big Year. Common Snipe was on St. Paul Island during my Big Year, and my first was on Adak in 2004. Recently, I have occasionally called Dark-eyed Juncos Slate-colored; the change goes back quite a ways. It must be related to the aging process as I am in my early 70's. I learned Slate-colored 65+ years ago at a young age. Very frustrating when this happens, and often I am not even aware of it until someone reminds me. Thanks to those who send me reminders. Sorry for the confusion.
